Myth that trade agreements bear no relationship to displacement. Anti-immigrant hysteria, measures that deny equality with people around. Policies have both produced migration and criminalizes immigrants. Proposes that human well being can best be advanced by liberating individual entrepreneurial freedoms and skills within an institutional framework. Characterized by strong private property rights, free markets, and free trade. The role of the state is to create and preserve an institutional framework appropriate to such practice. Late 20th century condition of economic, social, and political interdependence across cultures, societies, nations, and regions precipitated by an unprecedented expansion of capitalism on a global scale. The omission: the rise of western industrialized modernity and its precedents. Attacks on progressive redistributive internationalism (50s and 60s) or trying to change where the wealth goes. Attacks on downwardly redistributive social movements (60s and 70s) or trying to make the wealth go down to the poor.
