5 phases of neoliberal hegemony: attacks on progressive redistributive internationalism (50s and 60s) They are trying to decentralize/redistribute the wealth: attacks on downwardly (trying to give all the power to the people) redistributive social movements (60s and 70s) There was surveillance on every-day people who are involved in the movement. Ideology: good for everyone, as long as the rich are doing great, everyone will benefit but this isn"t true: domestically focused culture wars . Welfare mother was a white madonna woman, but then it changed to welfare queen who was black or brown: emergent multicultural , neoliberal equality politics. Good for the melting pot, but on the other hand there"s surveillance and criminalization. Equality politics: we are all the same, there are no colors. Free school breakfast: financial coercion, support of autocratic government and elites. A reliance on cultural politics: donald trump criminalizing immigrants.
