The notion of the traditional family is no longer a definite idea. The values it once carried with a middle class, white family with a husband, wife, and two children, all living in a suburban home, is a relic of the past. This idea of the end to the traditional family is supported in the portrayal of a family in the donna reed show in the harmony image of the 1950s. The image depicts a heterosexual married couple with a working man and his trophy wife, who is assumed to be a housewife, followed by two children. According to the u. s. census bureau, approximately 14 million american homes are led by women with no father-figure. Home use this information to show the change in how the male is no longer the only. Women are now a part of the work force and are able to provide for themselves as well as for their children as single mothers.
