Couldn"t get a job b/c his labor card was not accepted. Escaped then came back tot he camp due to starvation. Thought that they would kill him but they never even noticed that he escaped. The nazis knew that the jews who escape can"t survive outside anyways and will eventually die or come back to the camp. A guy gave him shelter and food to live. Never went to high school. forced to leave in 8th grade. Had to leave refugee since they were only given limited time to stay there. Got scholarship to go to college (from a fraternity) Many non-jews and jews helped him survive.
