Roman sends ambassadors to north africa: they find that carthage is resurgent: rome decides carthage must be wiped off the face of the earth. Rome declares war to defend their trade interests. Rome wanted this: they declare war on carthage. All of carthage is sold into slavery. Rome was also expanding to the east in the second century. Conquest influence roman culture: the result is a fusion of greek and roman culture, represents the cultural legacy of greece and rome.
