The possibility for using the autologous transplant for stored cord blood is really really low: reason: genetic diseases are not able to use self cord blood. The possibility that donated cord blood to be used on others is much higher. Barriers for donating cord blood: not enough medical professionals, or they have no incentives, few sites, unawareness, criteria for the mothers, notify beforehand. Strategies for increase the diversity of public cord blood bank: timing of donor registration, selection of collection sites. Bone marrow transplant: 70% of transplants use peripheral blood, hematopoietic stem cell transplant, compatible, human mhc genes are highly polymorphic. A lot of di erent alleles for the same gene. The probability for a full sibling to be a genetic match is 1/4. The probability for looking outside the family varies with di erent ethnic groups: number of people could be reached after signing up, number of blood units in the public bank.
