Document Summary

Errors of scale- how we view space around us. Children below 3 have skewed representations of space, have difficulty using symbols and understanding scale. Not just a lack of knowledge, it is based on how they process space and size. Developmental methods- there are several issues with working with infants in a study. Can"t consent, speak, follow instructions, pay attention for a long period of time, and ethical issues. Habituation paradigm- attend to novel things because it is new and interesting, but will get bored and look elsewhere, will only regain interest when change occurs. Sucking response- when babies are excited or interested/attentive, they suck with a higher frequency. Looking times- babies look more at things they are interested in. Argued that development progresses in discrete stages- children are fundamentally different from adults (cognitive metamorphosis) Universal sequence- sequence happens in every culture. Hierarchical integration- can look back and understand previous stages, but cannot.
