The research project & critically (wk 2 day 1) Science involves the accumulation of facts and generalizations. Science provides same degree of prediction and control. Soc does not seek to control variables. Science - truth is outside the observer (scientific method) Dif methodology: a set of systematic procedures that guide the collection & analysis of data. Research does not seek ultimate and complete truth. Do we have a question? (do animals kiss?) Think about which the phenomenon varies and go from there. We have a research question that is grounded in some sort of theory. What people wear to work? (law firm vs silicon valley) Any variable considered to cause or have an effect on some other variable. For propensity toward violence: whether they are the victim of violence. For decision to join a social movement: social networks (friends that are activists) For efficiency of organizations: openness of communication.
