Phylosophy: philo = love, sophy = wisdom. Socrates as ideal philosopher: the unexamined life is not worth living , the counter example, cares only for the truth. Socratic wisdom: knowing when you don"t know something. Testing for truth: resolution by plausibility & logical consistency. Euthyphro is socratic method in action: piety vs impiety. Accidental property a property a thing happens to have, but can exist without. Essential property a property a thing must have to exist: different approach. But not all just acts are pious. Value of society: uncertainty keeps us asking questions, broadens our views, contemplation removes self from the equation. View the facts apart from yourself citizens of the universe . Philosophy birthed many sciences and western liberalism: astronomy, physics, biology etc, psychology. Logic: organized body of knowledge, of science to develop methods and techniques that allow us to distinguish good arguments from bad. Arguments: structure set of statements, or propositions that reflect an inference.
