Caused by bacteria dermatophilus congolensis, not contagious. Clinical signs: matted hair, paintbrush like lesions, with crust or scabs and loss of hair with paintbrush like lesions. Prevention:isolate new horses, isolate affected animals, control ectoparasites, dont let them stand out in the rain. Most common in belgians, creams, saddlebreds, qh, percherons. Large blood red colored regions of incomplete skin formation that expose the underlying dermis. Those alive generally do not survive long due to infection or fluid loss from lack of skin. Causes:recessive trait, common in poco bueno line of qh.
