Very limited, mostly done on chalkboards, stop motion. One of the earliest example of traditional hand drawn animation. Each frame on paper, made colours negative so it looked like chalk board. Shot on twos, 12 frames, each picture goes across two frames - less drawings, less smooth of an animation. Winsor mccay - american cartoonist, lil nemo, 1914 - first real character, gertie the dinosaur. Working with keyframes, he developed this idea, in between drawings . Registration marks, drawings locked in place with peg system.
