To understand communication must look at both (messages+meta messages) Say what you mean ( and mean what you say ) The meaning attributed to the meta message that accompanies a literal message. Sender intention differs from the affect receiver. Show value or care about the other person. Validate - don"t have to agree but recognizes person"s thoughts and feelings are valid. Be aware of our own selves and others. A type of communication encompassing essentially all communication that is not verbal, including such things as body orientation, eye contact, touch, interaction distance, and so on.
