General discourse on parenting strategies that discriminate against the health and welfare of children: physical realm, cognitive/intellectual realm, social realm, emotional realm, moral realm, psychological realm. We need to talk about a range of things to understand the causes of abuse, how it affects the child, and how to treat it. Intersubjectivity establishes the cultural norms at any given point in time! When a parent is abusing a child they use parenting strategies that we dissaprove of based on values and culture. Intersubjective agreement about what is appropraite and inappropriate in parenting strategies. Intersubjective agreement: general consesus among the majority of people. (there will still be outliers and people who disagree) What we know: average 5 kids killed/day by parental figures. What we guess: more than 3 million kids abused or neglected each year. Just an estimate because data is hard to gether because of privacy in families.
