There are ample opportunities to collect information about ourselves when we interact with significant others. In our early years when someone reaches our needs and calms our anxieties, we feel trust and that emphasizes and brings out more of the personality. Self-esteem~ reflects the beliefs if we matter or not. Self-efficacy ~ reflects the beliefs if we are competent or not. Efficacy is a sub dimension of self-esteem related to competency. Dynamic tension in early childhood years around the feedback they get about whether they are competent and whether they matter. Feedback about if you matter comes from every single interaction. All of the interactions that we have given us an opportunity to see info on if we matter. *collective feedback factors into whether or not we belief we are a person of worth who is valued. Self esteem continuum~ we all have self-esteem, usually on the middle to high range.
