Psychosocial: erikson nature/development of healthy personalities; figuring out identity. Need to know** 3 systems: biological, societal, psychological. Link btwn individuals / fams and their environment. Focused on growth of healthy personalities vs. freud"s neurotic behavior. Process of socializing a child into a particular culture. Looked at individuals task of achieving ego identity by solving identity crises at each stage. Paid too little attention to pattern differences thru out cultures that are considered desirable. Missed interaction of an individual w his social environment. Growing up is a process of achieving ego identity. Recognition / identification w cultural ideals / patterns. Diff tasks at diff stages / time where you are most ready to tackle a task. Integration of personal needs, skills and social demands. Link individual needs to needs of culture to solve conflict.
