LLAS 1190 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Homeless Shelter, Transphobia, Edna Brown
Document Summary
The community i would like to build bridges with is the transgender women community. Unfortunately, i have never had the pleasure of meeting anyone who identifies as a transwoman, which often makes me feel like i haven"t tried hard enough. These women face so much discrimination as to whether they should be able to participate in many things that other non-trans communities get to participate in with no questions asked. For example, they were stripped of their rights to have access to any homeless shelter they wanted or any healthcare facility they wanted. The whole world seems to be against them. I feel like within the trans community, much violence is directed towards trans women also, especially when they try to date straight men who happen to be transphobic and misogynistic. This is a huge problem, especially because there is such a toxic stigma that trans women are not actually women, which is very inaccurate.
