Both motile (peritrichous flagella) and non- motile forms exist. Commonly found in soil, water, and dairy products. Lives in the intestines of warm and cold- blooded animals. Passes through feces into soil and water systems. Common cause of nosocomial infections (icu)-transferred to patients during surgery or at wound sites or from catheters.
