Document Summary

1/24/17: safest way to attain a life of most pleasure possible, be moral whenever you can be to increase chances of living the most pleasurable life. Hedonists: morality is neither necessary nor sufficient in being happy. Aristotle: immoral people could not be happy: in addition to morality, we had to have external goods to be happy, he would of said that a salve couldn"t be happy. Morality: one that is captured by the virtues, particularly the cardinal virtues. Temperance- helps us manager our appetites, desires and passions. Courage: wise, just, temperate and courageous person is moral. Happiness: completeness: whatever happiness is it has to be the end of chains of actions. Money is only good for what you can do with it, it solely has instrumental value and no intrinsic value. Life of great wealth by itself would not have this formal condition of completeness: self sufficient: you have to build happiness yourself in a stable way.
