Intentional death, a self-inflicted death in which one makes an intentional, direct, and conscious effort to end one"s life. Death seekers: clearly intend to end their own life. Death initiator: intend to end their lives because they believe that the process of death is already underway. Death ignorer: don"t believe that their self-inflicted death will mean the end of their existence. Death darer have ambivalent feelings about death and show this in the act itself. Many attempts preceded by changes in mood. 70% of people who attempt suicide drink alcohol beforehand. Doesn"t definitely indicate presence of mental disorder. Mood disorders, substance use disorder, and schizophrenia are at greatest risk. One suicide appears to serve as a model for others. Media focus may leads to more suicides. Depression and anger at others directed towards self. Adolescence- suicidal actions become much more common after the age of 14.
