A process by which the behavior of an individual (sender) affects the behavior of another individual (receiver) by means of transmitting information across a particular channel (sensory modality). Intentionality (should this be part of the definition?) People in room next to you hear you, you aren"t intending to communicate. Eavesdropping sender is not trying to communicate (pretty similar to intentionality) Inanimate objects people wearing crazy clothing can still send a message. Frog"s have dot detectors which are neurons that fire only when a dot is seen. Edge detectors are neurons which fire only when they see a line. Mallard ducks peak sensitivity of auditory system 23 day old embryo: 500- 800 hz vs. 27 day old embryo: 500-1000 hz. Dominant frequencies of maternal calls (pre-exodus call) : 750hz and 1125hz. Hatchling at day 2: peak frequency 500-2000 hz and the mom"s exodus call is from 750 to 2250 hz.
