Raymond brady williams (1988): theory of immigrant religious identity. Religion is the category with clearest meaning and acceptance in the host society. So emphasis on religious affiliation and identity is one of the strategies that allows immigrants to maintain self-identity while simultaneously acquiring community acceptance. What model of race/ethnicity does williams employ to describe the experiences of south. South asians are paradigmatic of the multicultural experience because they"ve acquired community acceptance even as they maintain their own religious traditions.
