Odysseus builds a raft and uses cleverness to not cause wrath of calypso. She gives him a veil and pushes him to shore. Odysseus has to throw away the veil behind him once he gets to shore: ritual initiation- initiates are stripped down naked, given a ritual bath, and throw away the veil.
