Single species in nature do not exist alone but in a matrix with other species. Some species are unaffected by the presence or absence of other species. Mutualism (+,+) 2 species engaged in a relationship both grow at a faster rate. Commensalism (+,0) 1 species benefits while nothing happens to the other one. Amensalism (-,0) 1 species does not benefit while nothing happens to the other one. Competition (-,-) both species negatively affected by each other. Predation/parasitism (+,-) beneficial for one species but not beneficial for the other. *measure (+) or (-) at the population level by an increase or decrease in population growth rate in comparison to populations lacking such interactions. Birds get ticks off the folds of rhino armor. Rhinos without tick birds have higher chance of disease. Birds get a free source of food & protection. Zooxanthellae lives inside of the anemone & gives excess glucose to the anemone.
