At 17, got polio and lost one of his leg. Eastern iowa university to study political science with funding-> studied law-> didn"t do well in the 1st year so dropped out. Became sick of alcohol in his political career. Stayed drunk for 30 days after the his wife"s death. Visit sarah"s retreat house: spiritual retreat for alcoholic.
