Scott joplin was a pianist known for writing ragtime songs. Ragtime = musical genre that makes use of syncopation. Story about a woman living in texas who becomes educated and leads an uprising in the community against injustice after the civil war. Joplin tried to write music that should be taken musically, but society wasn"t ready for that kind of transition.
