●During puberty, sexual arousal
○1- begins earlier for Boys (age 10-12, girls: 2-3 yrs later)
○2- occurs more often for boys: several times a day, girls: 1 x week
○3- is more intense and distracting for Boys than Girls. For girls, it’s more
related in a romantic relationship
○4- sexual arousal comes at night as nocturnal erections- often leads to
masturbation. Nocturnal orgasms are common in boys (wet dreams)
●Nocturnal orgasms: 17x a year for boys, 4x a year for girls
●80-90% of males have nocturnal orgasms
●Most common sources of sex arousal for hetero Boys= nude females
●For girls= romantic book or romantic movie
●Males get more visual turn-ons, esp. If they masturbate to visual images
●Males and females who get sexually excited by seeing nude pictures: males: 54% males,
12% females
●Males are much more triggered by external stimuli than women are
●Basically no difference between males and females w/ INTERNAL fantasies
●For many young men, sex= all pleasure, no costs
●Teen boys don’t know what’s happening during spontaneous sexual thinking
●No one tells them not to pair these with thoughts of rape, incest, or pedophelia, so
consequentuly they can accidentally learn “deviant sexual turn ons”
●Penis doesn’t teach empathy, social responsibility, or concern for others
●Though men learn this through their family, but they can learn at any age. Can protect
from deviant sexual turn-ons
●Empathy is socially taught and those who were raped were found to have low levels of
empathy
●Males are more likely to see flirtation, seductiveness and sexiness than women see
(women see it as friendliness)
●Communication problems can lead to rape
●Erotic kissing, touching, and dancing does not mean they want sex
●Wait for a verbal “YES” or a clear “YES” signal
●Alcohol affects women 2x more than males
