For example, girls sit with legs closed and males sit with them open
Old view that males and females were two separate things - binaries
New view: there is a spectrum - androgyny
Androgyny is people who are in the middle of the spectrum
Having both masculine & feminine interests & behaviors
⅓ of college students are androgynous

a. People are tested to see if they are traditional (T) or androgynous (A)
b. Than paires as T-T or A-A
i. T-T males and females are distant in interests & communication styles
& do not coordinate well.
ii. A-A males and females are closer in interests & communication styles,
finding it easy & rewarding to interact & share
1. Androgynous people have closer relationships
2. A UCLA study:
a. How heterosexual people are perceived by their partner
i. Males perceived as more adog than females
ii. Males feared being perceived as self-centered, insensitive machos.
iii. Females feared being too assertive & competent.
1. Tho this is not true of all people
iv. People tend to become more androg w increasing age
