Evolution has transformed life on earth for as long as it has existed. Evolution is the common factor that links different biological fields. 19% of people said they believed humans evolved through purely natural processes of evolution. 38% of people said they believed humans evolved, with guidance from a higher power (such as a god). 38% of people said they believed humans have always existed in their current form, and have not evolved. These terms have changed their meanings over time. Our view of change changed with time. Our view of time changed with time . Early western culture: species are fixed and eternal. The possibility of change is not considered. Eidos: essentialism- all species had a perfect essence. Variation was seen as failure to achieve eidos. Like a dog show; dogs all look very similar, but there is a perfect standard. Species (and higher forms) seen as fixed rungs of the ladder .
