BIPN 100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Sympathetic Nervous System, Active Transport, Lesion
Document Summary
Norepinephrine can activate 4 different receptors, alpha 1 and 2, and beta 1 and 2. Will be tested on g-protein cascades on midterm 2 or final! Memorize each g protein associated with each receptor. Each receptor is only associated with 1 protein. So one receptor only has 1 type of g protein associated with it. Beta 1 and beta 2 receptors produce completely different cellular responses. Beta 1 increases heart rate and force of contraction. When you think of beta 1 you should think of the heart. Beta 2 plays a role in relaxation of smooth muscles. When you see beta 2 think anything but heart. You find a lot of beta 2 in your bronchioles, blood vessels, and uterus. Activation of camp in smooth muscles causes relaxation of smooth muscles. Alpha 2 activates a gi protein (same pathway as beta"s but inhibits camp) and decreases nt release.
