Encoding for intensity is dependent on the frequency of the ap. Encoding for duration has to do with the duration of ap. Ap can fire throughout the duration of the stimulus this is called tonic. Another way is by phasic neurons which fire only in the beginning and the end of the stimulus. Tonic neurons are also called slow adopting neurons o. They start firing at the onset and in time the duration between each interval of the ap or the gap between the ap gets longer and longer. Phasic neurons are also called fast adapting o. Encoding for location has to do w/ the labeled line theory, which says there"s a map that goes from your periphery to your cortex. Depending on where different parts of your body sense different things they take a pathway that leads to a certain location in your brain and that creates a cortical map.
