Document Summary

Scrotum allows for heat to dissipate better: testis need to be cooler than body temperature to function, testis, made of seminiferous tubules, contain precursors of sperms, to generate sperm. Spermatogonium-(mitosis)-> primary spermatocyte -(meiosis i)-> secondary spermatocyte -(meiosisii)-> spermatid --> sperm: hypothalamus produces gnrh during onset of puberty, gnrh uses portal system to get to anterior pituitary which causes release of fsh and lh. Fsh and lh have receptors in the gonad"s cells of both males and females. In males, sertoli cells respond to fsh by releasing inhibin and androgen binding protein and in conjunction with testosterone, produce sperm. In males, leydig cells respond to lh by releasing testosterone which travels through the body to cause secondary sexual characteristics, and is also needed for spermatogenesis. Secondary sexual characteristics: body hairr, deeper voice, thicker vocal chords. Increase red blood cell count: agression, muscle growth, acne, body odor. Libido (sex drive: testosterone inhibits lh and gnrh.
