If you want to really do web programming right you will need to know the ins and outs of. Layer 8 error correction - the meat layer. What the normal person doesn"t think about is (and what companies like amazon think about): Delay (100 ms is million bailout!) Factors to keep servers running while the normal user just does their thing. Defines standard way that clients request data from web servers and how these server responds. Typically running on top of tcp/ip (and tls) Well, consider ipv4 and ipv6 (it requires changing the whole planet!) But this model only represents a part of the internet! (must also consider the economic effects!) Tcp provides mechanisms to make the connection a reliable bit pipe! But, big speed tradeoff! (vs udp which does not guarantee reliability and in-order) Overhead of making a get request to every individual css stylesheet. Offer no benefit to the end user! (only to the developers)
