Western culture does not question muslim law because they generally believe that all laws and practices of muslim cultures is directly related to religion. It"s not a religious requirement, but rather a tool used to oppress women, but it"s not challenged because it is viewed as a fundamental part of islam. Highlight diversity of muslim laws around the world. Share more progressive, less oppressive ways of being muslim and undermines the idea that certain muslim practices are required universally. Enable women to imagine better lives for themselves without outright rejecting religion. Show that muslim communities do support women"s equality, feminism is not just a western concept. Rejecting patriarchy in muslim cultures is not rejecting islam. Share histories of muslim feminists in order to inspire others. Encouraging women"s participation in contesting and creating community for themselves. Encourage individual women to define religion for themselves. Challenge fundamentalist and western views of religion.
