Authorities saw social bandits as criminals but masses, broader public revered them. Social bandits: men who were regarded as heroes but rounded by sheriffs. Social bandits appeared in rural areas that were in midst of social,political, economic upheaval (aka the american south during post reconstruction era) Appeared in areas with tensions between central government and the people. Social bandit mythology were remembered as law abiding citizen (men) until some big injustice happen like killing someone for revenge (cid:824)pretty boy(cid:825) charles floyd. Ability to find protection with broader community like farmers. Woody guthrie song shows the bandits are real criminals but become (cid:820)larger than life(cid:821)
