Document Summary

Diasopras- def? (online def- jews living outside israel) More than 80% of non-indigenous people to the americas were from. Greatest mass enslavement world has ever seen. At least 12 million africans were brought to the americas from the slave trade(but death tolls along the way, etc. would be way higher) There were large powerful states that could enslave people to be able to sell them to the americas. Period before the late 18th century control of africa was extremely limited- were not under any european domination or control. Large states that fought with each other- people captured in war so were able to be sold as slaves. Brazil- closest point is west african coast- proximity allowed a less death toll: mozambique- by madgascar- were much cheaper- but higher death toll still evened out profits wise. Population of native americans dropped dramatically- therefore less people around that they could enslave and increased the demand.
