HUM 2 Lecture 1: Notes on Galatians
Document Summary
Declared righteous: in a right relationship with god, forgiven and given a place in god"s family, results in transformation by grace. Abraham was declared righteous by his faith in god"s promise. Always intended the law as temporary measure. The laws imprisoned everyone under the power of sin. Acted as a guide (school teacher) stay in line until jesus comes: he fulfilled the law, took the curse of sin upon himself, paid the price that all of us should have paid. Requiring to follow the law tooth and nail acts as if jesus did not fulfill the law, neglets the freedom that jesus gained for us: limits god"s promise to one ethnic family. Laws are good: but they don"t give power to obey them. The good news: jesus fulfilled the laws on our behalf, lives in us through the spirit, new humans who love others. Fruit of the spirit : people of love, kindness, peace, gentleness, self-control.
