Whom & how to target
• Non-profit or for-profit social venture, preferably in San Diego area
• Trying to speak to founder(s) and/or current director(s)
• Cosider releae to our shark-tak assiget
• Use the studet ard, ut mostly your genuine interest
• Reach your target through direct phone calls, emails, even showing up in person
Interviewing your target
• Go to them, meet in person in their business location (conf-call as backup)
• Ideally, all 3-4 team members attend interview, but majority is good enough
• Prepare an interview guide, but have a normal conversation
• Someone take notes, ask if okay to record and/or take pictures
• Be open
• Have fun

Learning Objectives
• Learn basics of generating a social enterprise idea in a small team setting
• Learn basics of structuring and delivering a social enterprise idea pitch
• Experience the art of pitching a new idea to a set of judges and a large audience in a
competition-like setting
Basic Instructions
• Form team of 6-8 about same social impact area
• Detif a speifi area of iterest, a sufferig/depried group of people ou’re
collectively inspired to help
• Search for an opportunity by taking to people (customers, end-beneficiaries,
stakeholders and experts)
• Propose (and partially validate) a Call to Action: a non-profit or for-profit social venture
• Prepare a 10-12 minute pitch presentation
• Distribute roles and responsibilities amongst the team as equally as possible (but only a
few have to present live)
• Pitch deck and live presentation is due on (6/13) –last day of class
