Started making tools out of stone: homonids 2. 6 million years ago. Upper paleolithic = last period of paleolithic: intensification of human culture. They still exist on earth: especially indigenous people in australia, a few in africa. Original affluent society : happiest people that ever lived on earth, 2 roads to affluence. Artificial selection humans determining selection ex: picking biggest seeds to plant consciously altering the environment started with beginning of agriculture. Pastoralism taking animals out to grass for grazing. Nomadic pastoralism: herders ride on horseback, move constantly, not settling: more stable source of nourishment than nomads, carried information, traditions, religions, objects over vast territories, conquer sedentary communities, horses prestigious animals. Those with horses hierarchically superior to those who did not. Father figure/older male rules over his offspring and their offspring, governs household unit. Men with upper body strength in charge of animals. Fossil remains show different damage from different kinds of labor between males and females.
