Document Summary

Life appeared on earth 3. 8 billion years ago. The process by which the different species of the world (plants and animals) make changes in their environment that allow them to grow and increase in number. 2 african apes that appeared approximately 23 million years ago began the process that eventually led to homo sapiens sapiens. All living things contain carbon-14 that decays at a consistent rate. Using the measure of the amount of carbon-14, age can be measured up to 50,000 years. Potassium-argon dating can be used to measure age of non-living things up to millions of years. Dna can be used to analyze how species appeared through seeing who they mated with and is how animal and human evolution is measured. Hominids (direct line to homo sapiens) diverged 6-7 million years ago. Lived in an environment very beneficial for hominids. Last great ice age happened 400 million years ago and the land of hominids shrunk and savannas grew.
