Wants to show that: He keeps speaking in Parables.
Jesus is descended from David and Abraham
Wants to connect Jesus to the home tradition of Jesus authority. Received a

Account of Jesus birth:
Joseph was engaged with Mary. Mary was pregnant before they got
married.
Wanted to call oļ¬ the wedding but an angel tells him that Maryās child is
from the Holy Spirit
Because Joseph is the descendant of David, Jesus is also a descendant
Jesus fulļ¬lls the prophecies of the Hebrew Bible
Jesus is like a new Moses
Moses brings the 10 commandments to the Jews
Jesus talks about them at his sermon
Wants to keep the Jewish laws
In sum: Following Jesus is a way of being a better Jew Matthew = āthe Hebrew [i.e. Jewish]

Q: Do you need to be Jewish in order to follow Jesus?
Not going through the visible action, but whatās going on in your feeling. Shouldnāt commit
adultery. Work on your inner feelings and those inner feelings will produce the right behavior.
Pray in your room and donāt let anyone see you. He calls Pharisees hypocrites. Jesus is
entirely in the Jewish religion. Heās telling them how to be a good Jew. No one calls each
other Christian, they call themselves Jesusā followers.
But wait..
Is Jesus saying that the food laws donāt matter?
IS Jesus saying that keeping the Sabbath isnāt necessary?
Is Jesus really saying that the Sabbath isnāt necessary when you are doing good
things.
How radical is he? How consistent is his message?
Washing hands before you eat? Jesus answer: Itās what comes out of the mouth that
deļ¬les a person.
Does he break the 10 commandments?
Two diļ¬erent messages: No more political center for the Jewish (happened between
this time period of these two speaker)
