The beatles retired from performing in august 1966. They had released rubber soul 6 months earlier - a move away from the traditional r&r recording method of performing live in the studio and collecting singles w/ filler songs to make an album. Although they had recorded revolver prior to their final tour, they recorded the album with no pretense of ever performing the songs. It is opposed to classicism ; values movement and assumes progression from previous iterations of art: general aesthetic elements include an emphasis on method and form, and a regression towards primitivism (or a progression towards simplicity) Truths are embedded within the art, and although not immediately evident, are universal. Processes and techniques are de-emphasized and an emphasis on the use of tropes and found objects arises. The meaning of the art, then, is not based on meaning embedded in content but on how the viewer perceives the content.
