• Anytime we listen to recorded music, we are in some sense listening to
electronic music.
• Since studio recording began, the rile of the producer has varied.

• What is Gere?
o Genre can be thought of as a way of characterizing a group of works
based on common qualities and common histories
• Many practices share a common history then split off from each
other
• Musical Genres
o Tend to prize certain qualities and aspects of sound
• Dubstep: Heavy, rhythmically complex synthesized basslines
• R&B: Smooth, melismatic vocals
• Hip Hop: Rhythmic interplay between vocals and samples,
idiosyncrasy of style
• Classical: Huge dynamic rage
• Indie Folk: storytelling, intimacy, proximity
