Document Summary

Persistence of learning over time through storage and retrieval of information. The faculty for recalling past events and learnings. Encoding processing info into memory system eg: typing info in computer. Retrieval failure: when you recall the wrong information. Recognition: when you"re provided with possible options/targets and you select the correct ones (easier) (simply identifying) You identify targets from a set of possible targets. Recall: there are no options, you simply try to remember. (retrieving info from memory) You"ve learnt some information in the past but have forgotten it now, so you must learn it again. The easier it is for you/the faster you re-learn are measures of memory retention. When you acquire new knowledge about a subject, it joins other previously encountered pieces of info of that subject to help form and grow networks of info. Info is processed simultaneously by several different parts of the memory system rather than in a sequential manner as proposed by atkinson shiffrin model.
