PSYC 105 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Nicaraguan Sign Language, Jean Berko Gleason, Autobiographical Memory
Document Summary
Some of the concepts we heard about in ltm review. Spreading activation : priming of accessibility, maybe of behavior. Explicit vs implicit memory : implicit longer lasting, preserved in amnesiacs. Recall vs recognition : activation/priming plays a role in explicit memory, and is often mistaken for explicit memory (or truth) Episodic vs semantic memory : mental time travel, autobiographical memory vs facts. Studying : spacing effect and testing effect, testing is best! Memory is constructive: we rely on schemas and expectations when remembering. Source monitoring: difficulties of knowing if you heard something or saw it or when you learned it can lead to many false memory situations. Memory recovery: common techniques are most likely implanting false memories. Some of the concepts we learned about language: Morphemes -> overgeneralization and the wug test as evidence of implicit rules. Syntax -> using phrase structure to build trees to understand syntax.
