Document Summary

Components: signal producer environment (not emiting in vaccum, will interfere and reach dif to recieve) signal receiver, the mechanisms underlying each of these three components impact the changes in the signal. Avian system: signaler-how the song produced, environment- how is the signal transmitted effectively through this medium, receiver- how is song perceived and recognized, sinnalar. Air is expelled from the lungs and passes through the syrinx. Has two chambers and when air is expelled its pushed through the chambers- that tighten and loosen rather than opening and closing to change the pitch. Each side of the syrinc works in coordination to produce notes. Each membrane produces something dif but they work in tandem- at times each can coordinate to produce a signle continuous note. Experimenters- used a light and flashed a light at zebra finches during the song- grab birds attention o see when they stop singing- stop whatever doing to look.
