Document Summary

Strategies used to elicit, maintain, increase or decrease emotions. Attention (aspects) (say attention to different things, focus attention on. Modification(your effect, talking about something else) things that don"t annoy you rather than what does) . Cognitive (can change cognitions, can change what you think about it, can say that it really reflects terrible home life or something and that you pity them) . Emotion response focus (feeling, behavior, physio)change your behavior to not show you are annoyed. More effective to act on the antecedents of emotion than to change emotion or response focus. Negative affect (eg. watching disgusting, sad movies: iv: reappraise. Results: reappraisal decreased all aspects of emotion. But in real life- hard to do this, change the antecedent usually easier: suppression only decreased facial expression. Coping- the process of managing demands (external or internal) that are appraised as taxing or exceeding the resources of a person. Neutral topic (just what you did yesterday, etc)
