Document Summary

Based on functional assessment info (establishes what antecedents are) Involves altering the environment in advance of the target behavior. *major limiting factor is the degree to which we can control environment. Addresses consequences indirectly through manipulation of motivating operations. Increase probability of desirable target behavior and decreases the probability of undesirable alternative behavior. Goal is to cut person off from things that drive behavior. Ex) child overeating candy- could remove motivating operation of hunger (make him eat meal first) and keep packaging out of view to keep them from wanting the candy. Display healthy food (desirable) so person eats that instead of looking for candy. Procedures to increase probability of desirable target behavior: present sd or cues for desirable behavior. Desirable behavior is under stimulus control of sd. When sd is present, behavior is more likely. An eo makes reinforcer for desirable behavior more potent; increases probability of desirable behavior. Make it easier for person to engage in desirable behavior.
