USP 3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 21: Contact Tracing
Document Summary
Represents a prolonged case study in isolation. Results from a product of cultural affinity, though can temporarily preserve culture by segregating, ultimately will blend. May be regarded as a form of accommodation through which a minority has effectively been subordinated to a dominant group. Ghetto is not the arbitrary creation of the authorities, but rather the crystallization of needs and practices rooted in the custom and heritages. Historically, to the jews spatially separated community seems to offer best religious prospect. Within the ghetto, the jews contact with the community is intimate, he was bounded by common trouble . Throught the instrumentality of the ghetto, there gradually developed that social distance that isolated the jew from the remainder of the population. Jews lived on the fringe of two worlds. Sometimes, some jews were attracted by the outside world, and gets converted. A common feature in all ghettos is the cemetery: communal responsibility to which unusual sentimental interest was attached.
