Manus the distal part of the thoracic limb (including the carpus, metacarpus, phalanges, and associated sesamoid bones). Carpus the carpal bones and associated compound joint. Some variation between species basically two rows of 4 bones each. Proximal row: radial carpal, intermediate carpal, ulnar carpal and accessory carpal. Distal row: 1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd , 4 th carpal bones. Dog/cat = intermediate and radial carpal bones are fused into the intermedioradial (radial) carpal bone. Intermediate carpal* between radial and ulnar. Accessory carpal behind the ulnar carpal bone. (medial) - 1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd , 4 th (lateral) Horses 1 st is v small or missing. Each weight bearing metacarpal as a pair (2) sesamoid bones. Dogs/cats - 4 weight bearing (mc2-5) / 5 total. Horses 1 weight bearing (mc3) / 3 total. Ruminants 2 weight bearing (mc 3+4 fused) / 2 total. Swine 2 weight bearing (mc 3+4) / 4 total.
