Pros and Cons of Diversity
- Research shows that diverse membership in groups contributes to higher creativity,
increased flexibility, and better problem solving
- Diversity is helpful when facing challenging ethical decisions
- Personal prejudices may be evident
- Communication may be difficult
- Members of groups with similar background (diversity low) can often reach decisions
quicker
o We get along better with people who are similar to us
How do Organizations manage diversity effectively?
- Diversity management is the process and programs by which managers make everyone
more aware of and sensitive to the needs and differences of others
o Diversity is more successful when it is everyone’s business, not just for certain
groups of employees

Implications for Managers
- Understand your organization’s anti-discrimination policies thoroughly and share them
